  • 750 jobs will be created during construction followed up by 1,000 permanent jobs
  • Coillte agrees sale of 375 acre site at Newcastle Wood, Ballymahon
  • €32 million annual contribution to Irish GDP
  • Center Parcs already operates five successful high quality short break holiday villages in the UK

Center Parcs, a leader in the UK family short break market, today announced plans to develop a holiday village at Newcastle Wood, five kilometres from Ballymahon, County Longford, and 21 kilometres from junction 9 (Athlone) of the M6 motorway from Dublin to Galway.

The 375 acre site is currently owned by Coillte, the State forestry company, and Center Parcs have signed an option agreement with the company.

The new Center Parcs, which is expected to open to guests in 2019 (subject to receiving satisfactory planning permission), will create approximately 750 jobs during construction. Once open, the €200 million development will have capacity for up to 2,500 guests and will employ up to 1,000 people in permanent jobs. Many of these roles are expected to be filled by employees between the ages of 18 and 24, and the majority of employees are likely to live locally.

Center Parcs estimates that, when operational, the new holiday village will add approximately €32 million to Irish GDP per annum.

Center Parcs offers high quality short breaks in a secluded and natural woodland setting. The five Center Parcs in the UK are popular with families, with the business consistently exceeding 97% year round occupancy.

I was privileged to work during a period when it was only necessary to compete against half of the population. Warren Buffet.

Sandberg 2013

As Sheryl Sandberg quotes Warren Buffet in her newly released book Lean In, the issue at hand is one that is widespread and globally local to every one of us. Gender Inequality still permeates our Global Business Society, where according to findings from Sheryl’s book, “only twenty-one of the Fortune 500 CEOs are women. As well as, women hold about fourteen percent of executive officer positions, seventeen percent of board seats, and constitute eighteen percent of our elected congressional officials.” These results show that when it comes to making the decisions, that most affect our world, women’s voices are not equally heard.

However, we do see continuous improvements being made in regards to this issue, where in Ireland more and more females attain positions within Government space, as well as numbers of female Business Leaders continue to rise.

With this in mind, we feel honored to have been able to have taken part in Women’s Executive Network (WXN) Leadership Summit and Awards Gala 2014 and photographed some of the most powerful and inspirational Irish Women at this present day.
